Karma Dog Training: Board & Train

The Board and Train Program is designed so that your dog’s receives the best education we can offer with the goal of responding to you when they return home. It is a one, two or three week program, depending on which program you choose, and is followed by 3 private in home sessions as well as unlimited group classes.

Here's how it works

Your dog will come and live in one of our trainer's home and receive daily training lessons. Your dog will be trained inside the home, outside on the street, around other dogs, at the park etc.

In between training sessions, your dog will receive ample exercise, lots of playtime, have plenty of time to relax and get to hang out with several other dogs when not training. We do NOT cage your dog under any circumstance unless specifically requested by you to do so.

When your dog returns home, you will have a lesson with our trainer, followed by a second lesson a week later and a third lesson a week following that.

The board and train fee includes all training and boarding, 3 private in home follow up lessons and unlimited group classes for up to 6 months.

What exactly will my dog learn?

At the end of two weeks of professional training with one of the trainer’s at Karma Dog Training, most dogs will have the expertise of dogs that attend our 6-week Basic Obedience Level 1 class, while many dogs will be beyond that level of training.

Specifically, your dog will learn The 7 Requests for Success: "sit", "stay", "come", "down", "heel", "leave it" and "go to your bed". Upon drop off, you'll also learn the 7 Requests for Success and how to implement them with your dog.

Dogs who start the program already knowing basic commands are often able to progress to more advanced behaviors, such as off leash work, place command, etc. The number of behaviors, which are taught in the “Board and Train” program, are highly dependent on your dog’s starting point.  However, the typical dog completes a full basic training regime in this timeframe (loose leash walking, sit, down, stay, wait, leave it etc.). A two-week package also includes all basic household “Good Manners”, including potty training basics, no jumping and chewing on appropriate chew toys.

A three-week package polishes the above behaviors and further customizes your package. We even throw in a trick or two that you request!

In addition, every dog that boards with us will experience impeccable management and comprehensive socialization. Your dog will have daily interaction and play with very balanced dogs - assuming they play nicely with other dogs.

One, Two or Three weeks?

Although we offer one week, two week and three-week “Board and Train” options, a second or third week in our care with our training and management program can make a huge difference in your dog's overall education.

The dogs that are with us longer are almost always superior in their skills and socialization than dogs that are here for just one week. Of course, one week with us is much better than no time at all (people often say things like, "it's a miracle" or "is this really my dog?").

But, if you are contemplating whether one week, two weeks or three weeks, in most cases we will always recommend the longer stay if you believe your dog can handle the separation from you.  Even though our “Board and Train” programs typically last between 1 to 3 weeks, they could be as short as 48 hours.

Making the commitment to become your dog's leader.

Our “Board and Train” program will help your dog become more centered, calm and relaxed.  It will also make him/her more obedient and happy to comply and follow your leadership.  However, if he goes home to the same unbalanced environment he came from, he/she will not stay trained or content for very long.

The key to success with our “Board and Train” program is the family’s willingness to learn to support the new behaviors.  If the family does not learn and implement the new way to interact with their dog, the dog will eventually revert to his original behaviors.

Choosing our “Board and Train” program must come with the commitment that you will practice what you’ve learned with your dog on a daily basis.  The most critical time will be the first few weeks after he/she is home with you. That is when all private in home lessons will be scheduled.

Upon returning home, you will receive personal, one-on-one instruction along with ten to twelve pages of the Karma Dog Training course materials that will support the teachings.  This is a very important part of the process. It is during this initial time that we ask you to give it your best at convincing your dog you have everything it takes to transform into his/her benevolent leader. If you are up to the commitment, then our “Board and Train” program might be a great fit for you!

GOING ON VACATION? Come home to a trained dog!

Are you going on vacation soon? Would you love for your doggie to get some extra training while you're away? Do you wish your dog had a better recall? Responded better to “sit” and “down”? Walked politely on a leash?

Then Karma Dog Training’s “Board and Train” program might be right for you. This is where your dog can enjoy daycare and boarding and also receive professional training during his stay.

Whether you have a dog in need of basic training and manners, or are simply looking to enrich the life of your well-trained dog while you're away, the “Board and Train” program will tailor your dog's experience to your needs and training goals.

How does "Board and Train" work?

Your dog will have multiple one-on-one training sessions each day, working with one of our trainers to learn (or brush up on) the goal behaviors set for him. After his stay, you and your dog will have a private in home training session (included in the price of boarding) to review those goal behaviors and show off the things he's learned, followed by a second lesson a week later and a third lesson a week following that.

In addition to your dog's “Board and Train” experience, your dog will get exercise and enrichment while playing with canine friends throughout the day.

If you are too busy for private or group sessions or would simply like your dog trained by a professional, give us a call. Our “Board and Train” programs usually last between 1 to 3 weeks but could be as short as 48 hours.

Imagine, going on vacation and coming home to a better-trained dog!

POSITIVE TRAINING ONLY!

Karma Dog Training’s “Board and Train” programs use ONLY positive reinforcement methods. Some dog training companies who offer “Board and Train” will use anything it takes to get quick results with your dog including employing choke chains and shock collars. Karma Dog Training will NOT employ any kind of aversive training techniques on your dog unless specifically requested by you and agreed by us beforehand.

If the "Board and Train" option sounds like it's the right fit for you, please fill out our online form. Space is limited.
